5 Ways to Sleep Better

Not exactly getting the right amount or quality of zzzz’s? Add caregiving stress to the mix and you may be operating on both lack of quality and quantity.

The good news (er—okay, it’s not exactly good news), but at least you’re not alone. According to the National Sleep Foundation’s annual Sleep in America® poll, Americans feel sleepy on average three times a week and report high rates of irritability, headaches and feeling unwell.

  • Keep devices outside the bedroom. As in out of sight, out of mind, out of reach.
  • Wear a sleep mask.

  • Replace your pillow. It won’t break the bank! This little move can go a very long way in terms of comfort.
  • Stay away from caffeine and nicotine late in the day. Yes, even if you’re in the waiting room at the hospital for your mom or dad. Even if you are super stressed.
